Mercat del Born
The Mercat del Born was inaugurated in 1876 and was one of the first major buildings in Barcelona to be built from iron. During its first 95 years of operation, it played two roles. Initially, it was the market of the La Ribera neighborhood and after 1921, it was the central fruit and vegetable market for the entire city.
Currently, the antique Mercat del Born is listed as a site of Local Cultural Interest for being the first of the public markets built from iron in Barcelona.
